Two models of Alligator loppers
The Alligator is a tool I have used over and over for more than seven years. It keeps on going and going! Even the original batteries are still good.
The "magical” thing about this tool is the spring loaded guards that cover the chain. Regular chain saws are wildly dangerous because their blades are exposed and can jump back at you…but the Alligator is different! It's so safe I even let my 4 year old nephew try it (with me helping him to hold it, of course).
It looks like a toy, but it's not. It can cut down small trees! See the video, below, where I fell a 40 foot tall, 4 inch diameter tree!
And it makes quick work of limbing and that sort of thing. When cutting isn't so much work, it becomes kind of fun! Now I look at my manual bow saw like it was from the 1800s.
The jaws that cover the chain have "teeth" so they pull a brach into the saw as you cut. That means it holds steady while you merrily cut branches or small trees.
Maintenance? I have tightened the chain once or twice, but that's easy and the required tool is included. It needs a bit of oil squirted on the chain every so often, too.
There are corded and cordless versions!

This video shows me cutting down a 40 foot tall, 4 inch diameter tree.
If it can do this, it can certainly do any limbing and trimming you have to do.
There are two kinds of Alligators.
One is a corded model, the Alligator LP1000. If you aren't going more than 100 feet from your outlets, that's a handy kind to have.
The other is the cordless LLP120B Alligator. It is a 20 volt model with an improved lithium battery. My old, original non-lithium batteries are still working fine after several years…and the new ones are even better!
The battery and charger are ordered separately. If you already have other Black & Decker tools that use this battery, then you are all set.
I have an entire separate page dedicated to batteries and chargers, but here’s the quick scoop.
Black & Decker also sell a couple of fast chargers you might be interested in. They also sell extra batteries. I like having a spare…that way I always have one in the charger and one in my tool. They also make several kinds of chargers. You do need to be aware and match the charger and battery with the Alligator you get or have. Click here for my page with detailed information and where to get the right ones for your Alligator.
The Black & Decker BDCAC202B 20V Lithium 2 Amp Charger and LBXR20 Lithium Ion Battery are for the LLP120B Alligator (because it uses lithium batteries).
The discontinued NLP1800 Alligator uses NiCad or NiMh batteries, click here for appropriate batteries and chargers.

Full disclosure: I have personally bought and used almost everything I mention on my web site. I search for good deals on good products for myself and tell you where to find them. If you buy from Amazon I do get a small commission, but you get the same price you would anyway. Most of the other stores I mention pay me nothing, but if they are convenient or have a good deal, I tell you.
Thanks for your support. I'm not getting rich doing this. When folks use the product links I can see they care. It is a fair amount of work keeping the site up. And of course you can email me anytime.
